Detailed description of Marsh Ridge Golf Course

Marsh Ridge is a Resort 18 hole golf course located in Gaylord, Michigan.

Marsh Ridge Golf Course first opened for play in 1992. The course was designed by Mike Husby.

This hilly course bridges over thirty-five acres of unspoiled marshlands, with rolling hills and scenic vistas overlooking dramatic vertical drops. The greens vary in size and putt true, and the fairways are narrow. Marshlands come into play on nearly every hole.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,062 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,391 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 15, a par-5 that plays to 591 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 136 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 3, a 482-yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 17, a 147 yard par-3. The signature hole is #10, a 172-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot from off a five-tiered tee box over marsh to an elevated green.

I've played Marsh Ridge roughly every three years for the last couple decades. The course is showing signs of needing maintenance and TLC. The fairways and greens are in decent shape, the tee boxes are pretty bad, the traps need help as well (didn't help that none of traps had been raked - golfer's issue, not the courses). Mostly you notice how much the brush and "natural areas" have become overgrown. What used to be the signature hole, #10 - Par 3 with elevated tee box right beside Old 27 Highway, is now so overgrown that you can barely see it from the highway. Another long par 3 - #13 I think, 160 yards over marsh - is so overgrown that the green is barely visible from the tee box. What was once the natural beauty is now overgrown scrub. A good layout, the fairways and greens are fine, rest of the course is and getting a bit shabby.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again
